Not sure what to say?

Todd,
I am sorry to hear of your father's passing, my condolences to you and your family. P.S. The hurricane and subsequent flooding were the only reason that I stumbled upon this site. Sorry that we didn't touch base under better circumstances.

I knew Bill at Mason's Island, Mystic, Conn in the late 40s and early 50s when his parents summered there. As a boy I looked up to him as a gentleman and role model. I sailed with him and he and my sister won and important sailboat race in 1947.

Rowing at Rutgers was one of the most important influences of my life. Bill was my coach in 1980 and his love of the sport and caring for the students was always evident. I am truly happy to have known him.

My condolences to Bill’s family. This year marks 30 years since I last rowed for Bill at Rutgers. In the mosaic of life we are all a composite of our exposure. Thank you Bill! May you forever row downstream with a tailwind…

Bill was a large reason why I attended Rutgers. My Dad was Bill's seven-man on that 1950 Harvard crew that won the Grand Challenge Cup, and I was honored to row for Bill on the 1981 heavyweight crew at the Sprints. He pushed us hard, and helped us become our best. He has a great legacy.

I wanted to add my condolences and say that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Clearly your dad touched so many people's lives in so many ways, and is so dearly missed.

Dear Jan and family,

Mary and I were saddened to hear of Bill's passing. He was an inspiration to me and others, and he started me on the road to a life-long love of rowing. His skill and dedication to the sport will be a lasting legacy to all those people he touched through his coaching.
Sincerely,

Dear Jan and family, Kathy and I were sorry to learn of Bill's passing. and I can only echo the sentiments of others that have already commented on the positive influence that he had on our lives when we were at Rutgers. He was a good coach, mentor, and friend to us all.

Dear Jennifer, Mark, and Todd;

You have my sincere condolences on the loss of your father. Although it may be difficult to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow. Not only was he a coach and mentor to me, he was also known as "Uncle Bill". He had the gift of taking a group of misfit college students and turning them into a winning crew team. My thoughts are with you and your family.
