Growing up I knew Bill as a sports writer for the Plain Dealer. About 6 years ago I had the pleasure of becoming Bill and Marilyn's neighbor. My encounters and conversations with Bill generally occured outside on the sidewalk. Bill and I were classmates at Vanderbilt. He was from Dallas and I was and am from Oklahoma City . Within the first 30 seconds of knowing one another he uttered " Hook-em " and I responded with a " Boomer Sooner " . Moments later we wagered a 5 spot on the 1966 OU- Texas game . We managed to stay in touch a bit after our Commodore days .
