William Ewing Lucas

I miss him so much. I´m thinking my cancer is back and so wish I could see him again. Sending gentle hugs to his family and friends.

Bill Lucas wasnt just my physican, he was my greatest champion ever. He saved my life.

I just read of Dr. Lucas' passing in the UCSD Alumni Magazine. My condolences to his family. I met Dr. Lucas in 1972 as a freshman medical student at UCSD and he was the main reason I went into Obstetrics and Gynecology. To see the kndness and compassion with which he treated his often deperately ill patients and to see the regard in which he was held by patients, other physicians, and staff has been an inspiration to me thoroughout my career in medicine. Mary Davis, Mary Mosson, and I (Faye Williams daughter) are the remaining members of the Navy Doctors Wives Book Club. We meet for lunch monthly at the retirement home/assisted living residence for Mary Davis to continue our connection. She is 93. Mary Lou, My sincere sympathy. I remember a couple of good years in the P.I., and a brief encounter in San Diego. Very pleasant memories.

Having practiced OB-GYN for 40 years, I have been exposed to some of the greats and near greats of our specialty. The likes of Bob Israel, Jim Austin, Marco Labudovich, Don Gallup, Jeff Phalen, Bill Roche, Ken Cooke, John Schaffer, and Joe Yon, to mention just a few. There have been others, and then, there was always us who were always legends in our own minds.
