William Roy "Bill" Manning William Roy "Bill" Manning, of Appomattox, VA, formerly of East Orange, NJ, was born February 3, 1928 and passed away in Appomattox, May 11, 2012.
Mr. Manning graduated from Columbia High School in S. Orange, NJ in 1945. Post graduation he joined his father's general contracting business. After the death of his father, he joined the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades in NYC. He was promoted to Foreman of many projects including the painting of the George Washington Bridge. Upon a career change he became a Skycap for Newark International Airport where he continued his career for almost 25 years. Upon retiring, he moved to Appomattox with his late wife of 54 years, Rebecca L. Manning.
Mr. Manning is survived by his children, Diane Ashley, Karen Matthews, Robin Manning-Drake and Robert Manning. He was father-in-law of Dante Drake and Lisa Manning. He is also survived by his brother, John Manning, and his sister Cynthia Gunnell. He was brother-in-law of Steven Beasley, Ivan Beasley and Janet Beasley. He was the proud grandfather of Devante and Taylor Manning-Drake. He is also survived by a host of nephews and nieces, cousins and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 5:30 PM at Springfield Baptist Church, 6074 Watt Abbitt Rd., Appomattox, VA 24522. Dear Diane, Karen Robin and Robert: To say that I am not saddened by the passing of your Pop is to say the least. Bill and I formed a bond early in our childhood when he lived on Halsted St in East Orange and when the family lived on Academy St in South Orange. Finally they relocated to Oakwood Ave where Bill and I sipped many a Ballentine Ale while watching the professional wrestling matches.
