Not sure what to say?

Bill could connect dots and people with an ease that stunned. His friends were lucky.

Bill had 360 degree vision with a beam to help his friends, colleagues and acquaintances however possible.

Bill was a fine lawyer and a fine person in every respect. As Managing Partner of the Firm he handled multiple responsibilities with creative intelligence and fairness and preserved and enhanced the Firm's reputation as one of the finest legal institutions in the world.

Bill was a devoted member of the American Cathedral in Paris and of the Board of Foreign Parishes. His keen interest and insight helped the Cathedral to survive, as well as the Convocation of Churches in all of Europe. He was not just a supporter, but a committed defender of the mission of the Episcopal Church.

Bill was my uncle and a great man. He had a sincerity and peace about him that comforted you while conversing. He was one of the sharpest people I have ever met and I will miss him dearly. It was my honor to spend his final days with him and reacquaint ourselves after too many separated years.

As administrative assistant to Bevis Longstreth in 1980, I came to work many long hours on the Chrysler bankruptcy alongside Messrs. Longstreth and Matteson. Mr. Matteson was always gracious, kind and hard-working (you, too, Mr. Longstreth). A real gentleman. Rest in peace Mr. Matteson.

Bill was a stalwart in the world of international policy and a voice that garnered and merited a significant following. He was also a generous and thoughtful friend. Gail and Doug Worth

I know how much you loved your father! And he loved you! My prayers are with you & your family!

Didn't know Bill well, but thought he was one of the nicest men I ever met. So sorry.
