Google searching Bill’s whereabouts I was really sad to come across his obituary, months after he passed away.
I got to know Bill, Jane and JAMA as a foreign student at the University of Illinois in the late sixties and early seventies. They were my host family for several years and offered the haven of their home when I was away from mine in Belgium with no Internet as nowadays. For Christmas, it helped.

Bill McClellan made a tremendous, and lasting, contribution to music librarianship, especially (but certainly not exclusively) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he is still fondly remembered. Rest in peace, Bill.

A diligent, hardworking librarian....an even-tempered, understanding boss....and a truly good, "centered," man. Modest about his achievements....aware that there is more to life than punching the time clock at work. A life well lived.

Bill was my boss in the U. of Illinois Music Library for many years. He was a wonderful librarian, supervisor, and human being, always being a calm voice of reason and staying true to his purpose no matter what outside volatile forces were in play. He will be missed!

The well-lived life of Bill McClellan is an inspiration to myself and to others. His love of family and friends - always with a smile and genuine interest are my favorite memories. Whether him visiting Meg in college or me visiting Meg at her home in Illinois, he had such genuine joy in seeing her and her friends. He cared about what was going on in others lives and in the world. We can all aspire to have social justice advocate in the first line of our obituary - but only a few earn it every...
