William Russell McCurdy

Will and I spent many hours speaking together. My fondest memories are absorbing his presence and wisdom. He always cared greatly about me and never held back showing it. So many qualities I hope my two sons grow up to embody. Thinking of you friend!

I remember Will's ear for humor and his eye for detail. Even when he was not feeling well, he was kind and self-aware. I remember him being in Orlando with other boys and young men who had Barth syndrome at the international conference. He was a gentle leader and was looked up to. An unassuming statesman! It's hard to believe it's been five years since his passing. I still share things with him in my mind and send him healing thoughts. In this way he stay alive in my heart and mind.

My heart is heavy. And it is filled with love and longing for Will. So many joyful memories come to mind about him. So much that he endured without a wisp of self-pity.

One of my very favorite students and advisees ever, Will McCurdy '01 never let his physical limitations get in the way. His innate curiosity, his self-effacing demeanor, and his passion for life in general enabled him to secure a legion of loving and supportive friends. We kidded each other mercilessly over our two baseball teams - the Yankees and the Red Sox - especially in the topsy-turvy years of 2003 and 2004.
