I served under Bill McGrath when he was a colonel commanding Sharpe Army Depot in California. At the time I was an Army major. He was one of the finest leaders I ever met.

Mrs. McGrath and family,

I had the extreme pleasure of working with Bill at HQs, AMC and in later years in other endeavors. Having worked with many leaders over my lifetime, I would honestly say that I have never served with anyone who was a gracious, humble, caring, and kind a leader. He knew how to leverage the strength of those around him and energize all he touched. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family as he will be missed, but certainly never forgotten.

Mrs. McGrath and family,
My deepest sympathy to you. You have lost a great man.
He was loved by all who knew him while I worked at AMC.
He was always very kind to me and especially my son, Lance, who worked closely with him while he was in SGS.
May God wrap His Holy Arms around you at this time and give you peace.
It was an honor to have known him.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. May God's peace and blessings be with you. I was one of the Inspectors General who served with the General for his entire DESCOM tour. I was given the scary task of informing him that he could no longer smoke in his office. He took it with a smile and grace. Having served under many officers in my 27 years of active Army and 20 years of civilian service, MG McGrath was undoubtably one of the finest officers I had the honor to serve.

Mrs. McGrath and Family, BG McGrath was a very kind man. You and your family extended your warmth to my family both in Germany and in Chambersburg, PA during the many a Catholic Mass. It was a great honor to serve a General such as him.

My deepest sympathy is extended to all the McGrath Family. I am fortunate to have known and served with such a great human being as Bill McGrath, one of the finest gentleman officers to ever serve our nation. His leadership, genuine concern for soldiers and most of all his sense of fairness will be sorely missed. A kind man who was approachable by anyone at any level, Bill made a huge difference for a better world during his time with us.

Mrs. McGrath and Family, BG McGrath was by far one of my favorite GO's to work with over the years. Not because we share the same last name and Irish kindred spirit, but, because he made every day special for those he came in contact with. Always a smile, a kind word, encouragement and respect no matter the rank, the affiliation (military or civilian) or the depth of the relationship. I was very sorry to hear of his passing and I will keep you and your family close in prayer during this painful time. Please accept both my son's and my sincerest condolences. I am a better person for having made BG McGrath's acquaintance.
