Not sure what to say?

Bill was a superb human being. As a fellow faculty member, I was first impressed by his being a true intellectual, devoted to rigorous thinking that led to truth. In the context of the GSB, this was particularly manifested in his conduct of his classes and his contributions to the shaping of the School's programs and direction. Over the years, I came to know him more as a man. Here too he was exemplary: generous, kind, and fun. The world is diminished by his death. I miss him dearly.

I first met Bill in March of 1979 at ITP in London with a very large group of GSB graduates, including my wife (Cathy Blake - a fellow GSB alum). Bill and I remained friends throughout the years and would catch up at various reunion events. Bill frequently told me that I was the only guy he let call him Billy because he called me Mikey. What a truly remarkable, caring human who gave so much to so many.

I am so grateful to have learned from Bill as a student at the GSB passionate about nonprofit management; his class was a welcome beacon at the business school for all who were service-minded. Extending my sincerest condolences, and appreciation for the deep legacy he leaves with the countless mission-driven students who learned from him.

I’ve known Bill since my work at McKinsey many many years ago and he was my work husband for most of that time. I will always remember his sense of humor, his willingness to sit down and talk if you needed to just vent and his strong opinions and intellect, he guided me through most of my time at McKinsey and for that I will always be grateful. My condolences go out to his entire family and all of his friends who I know will miss him deeply.

We've know Bill since he transferred to McKinsey in San Francisco in the early 80s -- there isn't much more to be said that hasn't already. He will be deeply missed.

I am really sorry to hear this news; my sincere condolences to Bill's family and friends. I knew him at McKinsey where his thoughtfulness and sense of fun will be much missed by all who knew him.

Bill and I were not particularly close, but I counted him as a friend, and i admired him immensely. He was truly a good man. I miss him, and offer my condolences.

So sorry to hear about Bill's passing. He was a tremendous leader for so many years in so many ways, and will be missed. Thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time of loss.
