William Benjamin Mentink, 52, of Fraser, Michigan, a U.S. Army veteran, a long-distance truck driver for more than 20 years with Scheider and Consolidated Freightways before his retirement, died at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy on Monday, December 23, 2002. Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, December 27, 2002, 11 a.m., at Macomb Christian Church, 13845 22 Mile Road, Shelby, Michigan. Bill was a very special man. I met him in 1989 when we all lived in Texarkana, Texas. I remember one time when I went with his wife to visit him down at the RRAD woodcraft shop and someone asked him if I was his daughter. He and I were both flattered and I began calling him "Dad" from then on...it was a special joke between us. He, Linda and I all chose to move to Michigan after leaving RRAD, and just knowing they were going to still be living nearby gave me an added sense of comfort. I...
