Not sure what to say?

It was year's since I last saw Bill. We always think we'll see someone again. I'm sad that I won't be able to but I'll always have good memories. Amongst other things, he taught me how to love good chocolate. I recall going on a mission with him to find the best chocolate on Vancouver Island. Of course, that was after the morning search for the best bakery. Good memories Bill.

A reminder of the anniversary of Bill's death came in my email and it was so good to see his face again in the beautiful photograph. I was reminded again of his fun loving spirit and warm heart. He is in my thoughts and I hope his family is healing.

To the Merkel Family, I am stunned by the death of my mentor and friend. I know that he loved his children more than you can imagine. He was fun, curious, intelligent and got me started on a very sound retirement plan. I remain his dear friend. Luci Short

Bill and I first met when he was an instructor in the Residents’ Clinic at Providence Portland. Bill was a kind man with a good sense of humor and was very helpful to the many patients I referred to him later. I appreciated and respected him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bill when he was living in NorthWest Place retirement community. A great conversationalist; he was a lot of fun to be around. I'm glad I had the opportunity to know him. Please accept my condolences on your loss.

Bill and I worked together at Providence as faculty leads for a small social/support group for resident physicians. He was so much fun; the residents loved him and were able to speak freely about the challenges of their long arduous days in the hospital. And yes, we did eat decadent desserts. Bill especially loved chocolate, I recall, but not with nuts. I will miss him.
