William Thomas Miars

William Thomas Miars, Jr., of Wilmington, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 1, 2010. He was born in Norfolk, VA, November 20, 1920 the son of the late William T. and Elizabeth Jones Miars. Mr. Miars and his family moved to Wilmington when he was 6 years old. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in World War II in the Anti-Aircraft division and was involved in the Commercial Real Estate business here for many years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Emma Trask Miars, three sons, William Thomas Miars III, George Trask Miars and wife Margo, and Peter Haywood Miars and wife Jessie, grandchildren; William T. Miars IV, Elizabeth Boyd, George Trask Miars, Jr., Frank Reynolds Miars, Peter Haywood Miars, Jr., and Louisa Trask Miars, and one great grandchild, Emma Ballard Miars. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Oakdale Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Michael Queen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 411 Market St., Wilmington, NC 28401 or the Lower Cape Fear Hopsice, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
