I emailed him this morning regarding a common client, and received a "bounce back." I expected to learn that he had retired. Then I found this obit. We were only professional friends, I only met him once, and that was ironically by accident: we both attended a hearing for our common client., when only Bill was "authorized" but no one informed me! He let me bill the client, and we won the motion to win a dismissal, but I so appreciated the gesture. So selfless. Frank Bedinger, Atlanta, Ga.

Sometimes you feel close to someone who you haven’t met in person, but you get the measure of that man in your dealings with him...Bill was that man. My discussions with him often went beyond our business issues and into things in our lives. He was easy to talk with, knowledgeable and had the warmth of a friend I had known for years.
