William “Bill” Donald Nolte, Sr., 85, of Cedar Rapids, died of natural causes on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospice. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at St. Jude Catholic Church by Rev. Mark Murphy.  Burial: St. Patrick and St. Paul Cemetery, Watkins. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 10 to 12 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. Per Covid guidelines, attendees are required to wear masks and practice social distancing.


Bill is survived by his five children, Bill Jr.  (Kelly) Nolte of Atkins, Jody Nolte (Jeff Peters) of Boone, Don Nolte of Cedar Rapids, Joe (Joanne) Nolte of Des Moines and Steven Nolte of Cedar Rapids; grandsons, Kyle (Erica) Elliott, Lucas Nolte and Edward Nolte; granddaughters, Olivia and Miranda Nolte; sisters Hilda Altmaier of Iowa City and Dorothy (Dan) Hingtgen of Cedar Rapids; sister in law Joyce Nolte of Norway and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosann who died on April 5, 2021; son Nicholas Nolte; grandson Spencer Nolte; three brothers Bobby, Lloyd and Virgil Nolte and sister Kathleen Cronin. 


Bill was born September 28, 1935 in Watkins, the son of Leo and Madeline Klein Nolte.  He graduated from Norway High School in 1953.  On April 15, 1967, he married Rosann Sonka at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Norway. Bill farmed most of his life. 


Bill enjoyed spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren. He loved farming and feeding the squirrels. He was an avid supporter of the NRA and Xavier High School.
