Sergeant William R. Pettry CHURCHVILLE - Sergeant William Randall "Bill" Pettry, 65, of Hankey Mountain Highway, died on Sunday, September 1, 2013, in Augusta Health. Born on November 28, 1947, in Beckley, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Willis Wayne and Blanche (Feazelle) Pettry. He was employed by the Augusta Correctional Center for 25 years, retiring as Sergeant of Camp 10. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed collecting guns as well as following NASCAR. Surviving are a brother, Wayne C. Pettry and wife, Shelby, of Fishersville; one niece, Stacy Pettry of Dallas, Texas; one nephew, Wayne Pettry of Fishersville; two great-nephews, Wayne and Blaise Pettry; two great-nieces, Nikki and Paige Pettry; and a special friend, J. P. Fridley. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2013, at Oak Lawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be J. P. Fridley, J. D. White, Jeff Harris, Rusty Boyer, Lester Brown, Phil Knight, and Seneca Graham. Honorary pallbearers will be Dwayne Loan, Debbie Boyer, Tom Farrish, Kevin Strickler, and Lewis Graham. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Bear Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312; or to a charity of choice. Special thanks to Dr. Lynn Moore, the 2-West nursing staff of Augusta Health, and his caregiver, Mary Ann Hall for their care and kindness during Bill's failing health.
