"Doc" Reid was headmaster at Southie High when I was there from 1968 thru 1971 and I kept in touch with him and his wife until 2001 and he was such a nice person to know and I am saddened by his passing and he will be missed by all that knew him and my sincere condolences to his family.

"Doc" Reid was a close friend and lockermate (at So. Bos. Yacht Club) of my late father-in-law, John O'Hare. I took a course from him at old Boston State and used his Mass civics book as a long term guide. My wife worked for him both at the High School and a year at the Bath House. I joined the Wardroom Club after him, but conversed with him at many meetings, and for years, until her death, he inquired after my mother-in-law. The world is smaller with his passing. He will be missed.

My late father, Harold Goorvich, was Assistant Head Master of Southie during those turbulent years, and the many wonderful years leading up to them. He always considered Doc Reid to be a friend, mentor and all-around class act. My heart-felt sympathy to the family.

I was saddened to hear of Doc Reid's passing. He was truly a class act. I will never forget him when I stepped into the main hallway in 1975, the first day of busing, at South Boston High. I was fortunate enough to meet him again at Castle Island a few years ago, and while our conversation was short, it was poignant and I will always remember it. What a great man.
