William Ridenour

I was a young high school journalist when hired to work part-time at WHLO in Akron in 1963-64 before graduating and entering the Air Force, which Bill advised me to do. He was a great teacher and mentor and I was honored to have him help me grow into a career in broadcasting that continued until I retired in 2019. Bill was one of the most honorable men I have met and a person all of us at WHLO cherished.

Many memories of wonderful family get-togethers!

There are so many wonderful things that could be said about Uncle Bill. Childhood memories that come to mind are planned visits from Uncle Bill, Pam, Kay and Patti and the never ending card games that the family played, oh yeah, the trail bologna and Swiss cheese too!! Such a sweet, caring and wonderful man!!!

Papaw was a great man and he will truly be missed but by no means EVER forgotten. He was a great part of my life and to the life of my family. There are many great things people are saying about him and I know that means the world to him, my family, and I. Thank you so much Papaw for always being there for me when I needed you most and God truly blessed me when he brought me to you. I will miss you dearly and think of you always.

I began working with Bill in 1962 at WHLO radio in Akron, Ohio. He became a friend and a mentor in my early years in broadcasting. We played together on the radio station basketball team that helped raise money for area high schools. Bill was an all-state basketball player in high school. I missed him when he left Akron to head for Cincinnati and was very proud of hearing about his wonderful accomplishments at WLW. Rest in peace my friend.

The Savage family met Bill after he met Glenna Savage when they were both taking dancing lessons at Arthur Murray after each lost their spouse. Bill became like a brother to all of us, we consider Bill part of our family, he was such a great guy.
Up to about 2 years ago my brothers Bob and Frank and I along with Bill were bowling every Wednesday. Always a lot of laughing and picking on each other.

Bill was a fine companion to my beloved Aunt Glenna and a dear friend of my parents. My Pop will miss his buddy.
