Groton - William R. Rose, 74, of 55 Kings Hwy., Groton, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 2, 1937 in Westernport, Md., son of John E. and Ethylene (Bosley) Rose. Mr. Rose was married to Dorothy (Taylor) Rose in New London on March 30, 1961. Mrs. Rose died Sept. 3, 1999.
William first worked at Millstone as a guard, and then joined the U.S. Navy in 1959 and served for 20 years, 14 of which where at the Sub Base in Groton, and retired as a chief in 1979. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War, and is a member of the Groton Senior Citizens.
Survivors include three sons, William Rose of Clarksville, Tenn., Charles Rose of Oakdale, and John Rose of Groton; two daughters, Mary Geary of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and Debbie Field of Groton; his companion of ten years, Mary Cieslak; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Richard Rose; and a brother, Norman E. Rose.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton. Burial with military honors will follow in Starr Cemetery, Groton.
