William R. Salyers, age 64, of Washington, Iowa died Wednesday, February 22, in rural Washington County. He had been failing in health for some time. Memorial services will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012 at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Jim Cluney officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church. A general memorial fund has been established.The Jones Eden Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent for William's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com. William was born July 9, 1947 in Grinnell, Iowa the son of William R. and Leta Doke (Harris) Salyers. He attended school in Grinnell and served in the United States Army for four years during Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Terry King on February 14, 1974 in Washington, Iowa. William worked at Crane Valves, McCleery Cumming Company, IBP, and at the Boys Group Home in Washington. He delivered the Cedar Rapids Gazette and the Des Moines Register in the Washington area for 16 years. William enjoyed gardening, growing and canning tomatoes, cooking, going for drives and antiquing. He is survived by his wife Terry Salyers of Washington, Iowa; son William Franklin Salyers of Washington, Iowa; one brother Carol Wayne Salyers and wife Ann of Newton, Iowa and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Darrel Salyers.
