William R. Schmieding

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Schmieding only a couple times but both times he was just so fun and smart and easy to be around. I want to express my deepest sympathies and send my prayers to the family and friends of Bill. I was fortunate enough to call Bill my friend from the Fall of 1971 when we lived on the same dorm floor at the University of Oklahoma. I will always remember Bill inviting me (dragging me, actually) to those student and faculty recitals in OU's Holmberg Hall. As someone who, at the time, had not experienced classical music, Bill's persistence led me to a continuing appreciation. He loved fine music...

Bill was a colleague of mine for 11 of his seasons managing the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, but more than that he was my friend.

I enjoyed our many conversations through the years - regardless of the topic - music, politics, life - Bill had a way of making you think.
