William Carter "Bill" Seidle, 85, of Arlington passed Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Arlington. Most Blessed Joseph S. Scantlin will preside. Interment: 12:30 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation: 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home, followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. The family invites friends to join them for refreshments 6 to 7 p.m. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to ASPCA, Box 96929, Washington, D.C. 20090-6929, www.aspca.org. Bill was born May 26, 1929, in Seattle, Wash., the only child of William Hall Seidle and Hazel Carter Seidle. He attended high school at Pennsylvania Military Preparatory School, followed by Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., and the University of Washington in Seattle. He graduated from Washington State University with a bachelor of science degree in animal science. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Bill joined the U.S. Army on April 6, 1953. He received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged on Jan. 5, 1955. He married Vivian Janice Zeman on Feb. 24, 1956, in Kennewick, Wash. He worked six years for General Electric, followed by the Atomic Energy Commission and Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a professional nuclear engineer for more than 25 years. Bill converted to Catholicism in 1972 and was strong in his faith to the end. He was a member of the Antique Fan Collectors Association and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. Survivors: His wife of 58 years, Vivian Zeman Seidle of Arlington; sons, William Carley "Bill" Seidle and his wife, Regina, of Montgomery, Texas, and Robert Carter "Bob" Seidle and his wife, Janice, of Houston; daughter, Julie Anne Seidle-Williams of Arlington; and grandchildren, Carley Jeanne Williams, Bryant Carter Seidle and Brett Thomas Seidle.

Bill Seidle, what can I say? One year ago today, you became such an important person in my life. You became my best buddy. Together, we solved so many of the world's problems and I am sending all of the answers with you. I am so glad that I was able to spend this time with you and I am so proud to say that you are my father-in-law and my best buddy. Also, I heard the birds. Love you always, Janice

Bill was my friend, supervisor, and mentor for many years when we worked at the NRC. I could always depend on his wisdom, consideration, and fairness. He was a big loss in my work environment when he retired in 1991. After I retired and moved away in 2003, I always made it a point to see Bill and his charming wife, Vivien, when Irene and I visited Arlington. The four of us went on several excursions and we were happy to observe that they were thoroughly enjoying retirement. Bill's warmth and wisdom will be greatly missed.

I had the privilege to work with Mr. Seidle in the Region IV Arlington Office of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. I fondly remember he was a kind man and a true gentleman. During his years as a Section Chief, it was always a pleasure to be a part of his administrative staff team.. He was a true role model and mentor to many. May he Rest In Peace. Mr. Seidle was a class act. A true gentleman and a truly lovely person. I worked with him at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Arlington, Texas. He always had a smile and a kind word. I've always thought of him as "one of the good guys." I'm so saddened to hear of his passing.

As a long time neighbor of Bill and Vivian, I sent a note to some current and former neighbors. When I read Vivian a note Tom Hoskins sent me, she asked me to post it here for her.

Tom wrote on November 8th: Bill was a solid guy. He had an old dog about as old as him and they walked all the time. Bill told me what roof to put on many years ago. He did an identical one about the same time. He was very smart, and I took it as gospel when he advised me. I think he was an engineer or some similar discipline.

Uncle Bill taught me something when I was about nine years old visiting Atlanta in 1968 that I have reflected upon every month since: He said don't play down to your opponent, because neither of you will get any better. He was the consummate gentleman and a great host. He taught us as children, especially the guys, a very high standard in many things by his own example. We sincerely wish that we could be there with you all to tell more stories and catch up. You are all in our thoughts.

My prayers are with you during this time of loss. I moved to Texas in 1988, I worked for Bill at the Nuclear Regulatory Commision until he retired. He was truely a great person to work for and with. I have missed him. He was liked and respected by all who knew him. No one ever filled his shoes.

My family and I send our condolences to the Seidle family. My uncle Bill will always be remembered fondly. He was a very warm person and he had an enormous quiet strength about him. He had a gift for relating to people, even a nephew, without any condescension. He made other feel good about themselves. A great sense of humor. A great role model. He will be missed.

As I look back over the past 55 years that I knew you, I have fond memories of a man that shaped me to being the person I am today. Along with mom, you instilled the traits of honesty, courage, tenacity, diligence, commitment, love, patience and self-discipline, all built on a firm educational footing. I still make decisions today based on these fundamental principles, from you, a man that was part of the greatest generation. Even after your passing, you will always remain in my conscience, to guide me throughout my life, to help make the right choices, based on the principles you taught - right vs. wrong; good vs. bad. Dad, although your physically no longer with us, spiritually your legacy lives and remains in the hearts and minds of many of us who will remember you as someone special.
