Dr. William Pennington Snavely
Dr. William Pennington Snavely died on Saturday, February 27, 2010, in Milton Florida.
He was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, the son of Tipton Ray Snavely and Nell Aldred Snavely.
He attended Hampden-Sydney from 1936 until 1937, and received a B.A. with honors from the University of Virginia in 1940 followed by an M.A. in 1941.
He served as Captain in the United States Army from 1942 until 1946. He attended Harvard and later received his PhD in economics. He was an economics professor at the University of Connecticut and served as chairman of the Economics Department from 1966 until 1972.
Following which he was chairman of the Economics Department at George Mason University from 1973 until 1981; then served as associate dean from 1982 until 1985. In 1986, he became a professor of economics at Liberty University. He was a Fulbright research fellow in Rome from 1958 until 1959. He served as a consultant for the Ford Foundation in Jordan, Lebanon and Bahrain. He was an author with W.H. Carter of Intermediate Economic Analysis, 1961, Theory of Economic Systems 1969 with M.T. Sadik, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, 1972.
An avid pilot, he is survived by his wife, Alice Pritchett Snavely of Milton, Florida; his children, Nell Lurain of Oak Park, Illinois, William Snavely Jr. of Salisbury, Maryland, and Elizabeth Aldred of Milton, Florida; five grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by the Teague Funeral Home.
