George L Doherty Funeral Service, Inc - Somerville Obituary

William Francis Sullivan Jr, known to all as “Sully”, of South Boston passed away on April 29, 2022 at the age of 86.
After several months of declining health Sully died peacefully surrounded by his family.

Bill was born on November 12, 1935 in Cambridge, MA to his father William (Bill) F Sullivan Sr and his mother Mary (Mae) R (Walsh) Sullivan.
He was the older of two brothers. Bob, his brother and best friend, passed away in 2019.

Bill lived most of his life in South Boston with his wife Anne (Barton) and his daughters. He attended Nazareth elementary school and graduated from Christopher Columbus High School. Bill served his country as a Navy crew chief for eight years in the Navy Reserves at South Weymouth Naval Air Station. He also spent many years in MassPort police at Commonwealth Pier before retiring from the department in 1996. Sully and his brother Bob were instrumental in helping establish the South Boston Youth Hockey League. These years coaching hockey and impacting the lives of the hockey players were some of the best years of his life.

Sully leaves behind his family who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife Anne, his daughter Christine Noble and her husband Jim of Wolfeboro, NH and his daughter Joanne Keane and her husband Sean of Medford, MA. Bill also leaves his nine loving grandchildren:
Olivia, Aislinn, Paddy, Catie, Charlotte, Colin, Emma, Ciara, and Finn.

A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated for Sully, in St Raphael’s Catholic Church, Medford, on Wednesday morning, May 4, at 11:00.
Relatives and friends invited.

He will be interred at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Arlington, immediately following the Funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Sully’s name to South Boston Youth Hockey League, PO Box 51952, Boston, MA 02205, John Gilmartin, President

Not sure what to say?

I remember both Bill and Bob as an 8 year old trying out for SBYH, no one was turned away and they both helped boys who had no equipment (me) get outfitted with what was needed to play. They have left their imprint on SBYH as well as thousands of boys. They are together again organizing a hockey game from up above. RIP

Joanne, Christine, and Mrs. Sull, I´m sorry to hear about Mr. Sullivan. I remember him down the yacht club when we were kids. He was a very nice man. I hope you are all doing well. I will keep you all in my prayers. All the best, Tommy Flaherty, South Boston

He is now resting in peace
