William G. Townsend, Jr., 87 of Brick passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024.  William was born in Elizabeth, NJ and lived in Roselle Park until moving to Brick in 1950.  He graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School and Stockton College.
William retired from the NJ State Police as a Captain after thirty-three years of loyal service.  He was a life member of Point Pleasant Elks Lodge #1698 and a member and past president of the Former NJ State Troopers Association.  William was an avid military history buff, he travelled to Europe many times and visited most major WW II battlefields.  He served in the Army National Guard from 1954-1959.
William was a proud husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family with all his heart and is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Camille DiStasio Townsend; two children Teri (Dan) Weidlein and John (Debbie)Townsend; and five grandchildren Katie Weidlein and fiancé Matt, Christopher (Christine) Townsend, Daniel, Megan and Caitlyn.
Cremation will be private.  There will be no services held at William’s request. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital https://st.jude.org. Colonial Funeral Home Brick is in charge of arrangements.

Bill was one of the most insightful, intelligent men that I ever met. Good humor and camaraderie where just one of his gifts that he shared with all. Military history were just an honored gift.

We remember many good times with Bill and Camille. Bill was always so much fun.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

I am so sorry to learn of Bill’s passing this weekend. My sincere condolences go out to Camille, whose assistance was immeasurable to me in the guidance office; to Teri, one of my all time favorite students; and John, a former player when I coached football at Memorial. The contributions that Bill Townsend gave us in his life are far reaching and cannot be recorded in this tribute alone. His obituary provided a capsule of his life efforts and his wonderful family. But there was more to Bill than words alone can describe the benefit of his influence. Bill was also a State Police Academy instructor for a few years and was known for his articulation, which was very much like a roar.
