William A, Vickery, 83, of Oak Hill Avenue, Attleboro, died on Sunday, August 17, 2003 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the husband of the late Dorothy J. (Moore) Vickery to whom he was married on November 26, 1949 and who died on March 17, 2002.

Born in Attleboro, MA on September 29, 1919, he was a son of the late Howard C. and Lois May (Smith) Vickery. He was raised in Rehoboth where he resided until returning to Attleboro in 1950.

He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the World War II era and had achieved the rank of Private First Class.

As a young man, he was employed as a heavy duty equipment operator, working with his father. Later, Mr. Vickery was a carpenter in the construction business having first been employed by his late brother’s company, Ralph E. Vickery Construction and then for the Joseph Larusso Construction for 15 years prior to his retirement. Following retirement, he worked for Dodgeville Finishing Company in Attleboro for a short time.

Mr. Vickery was a former member of the Second Congregational Church, Attleboro. He was a volunteer on-call fireman for the Town of Rehoboth for many years and was an antique car enthusiast. He, along with his late wife, was a member of the former Oak Hill Grange in Attleboro for many years.

He leaves a son: Peter W. Vickery of Attleboro; a daughter: Diane H. Doege of Derry, NH; a sister: Hazel Kelsall of Stewart, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Harold and Ralph Vickery.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 10:00 AM in the “Commonwealth Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Edward Cross, pastor of the Word of Truth Baptist Church, Attleboro, officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Rehoboth.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2003from 9:00 – 10:00 AM prior to the funeral service.
