William L. Winslow Obituary

Bill Winslow, a Wilmington resident, 62, passed away on May 8, 2025, from neuro-endocrine cancer. He was surrounded by the love of his family and friends in his final days. Bill graduated from Amherst Regional High School in Amherst, Massachusetts and received his undergraduate degree and Masters in Education from Norwich University in Norwich, Vermont.

Following his graduation from Norwich, Bill worked as the Head Coach for the men’s lacrosse team at Saint Mary’s College of Maryland, where he was the youngest Division 3 head coach in the U.S. at the time. At St. Mary’s, the local media credited Bill with helping the team be “graced with the drive and motivation to win.” In addition to lacrosse, Bill was a fearless college rugby player and embraced the brotherhood and bonds of the sport.

After receiving his MBA from UNCW, Bill discovered his passion for financial consulting and began a twenty-year career in finance that culminated with his most recent position at Schwab in Wilmington. Bill cherished his clients at Schwab and took time to know their families as well as their financial needs. He was an accomplished wood craftsman in his spare time and created highly finished tables and “Bill’s Boxes” in his home workshop. He was a devoted friend and dedicated sponsor, spending countless hours guiding men in the Cape Fear area on their path to recovery.

“Uncle Bill” will be deeply missed by his adoring nieces and nephews. His immense generosity was matched only by his knack for finding the perfect gift you never knew you needed—like the bidets he surprised all his brothers with one Christmas. His favorite day of the year was the Fourth of July, when he took great pride in hosting friends and family for what became known as the best (and most famously unauthorized) fireworks display at Wrightsville Beach.

Bill was loved and will be missed by his three brothers and their spouses, Dan of Wilmington (Susan), Tim of Wrightsville Beach (Heidi), and Josh of Southport (Marilu). He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews whom he loved, Kayleigh (John), Marlie, Hadlie, Sam, Parker, Hannah (Shane), Peter, and his grand nephews, Jack and Hank. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Joel, his nephew, Brody, and his brother, Joey. Bill loved and laughed often with his many friends.

Visiting hours will be at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market Street in Wilmington on Saturday, May 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., immediately followed by a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Bill’s life. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bill’s memory to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or online at lifecare.org.

Please leave condolences for the family on the guestbook.

Not sure what to say?

Bill was very instrumental in helping me, a client, when my wife passed. I had been an advisor. I will miss him and his humor (dry) and his tremendous capabilities.
God bless you, his family

He will be missed.

Will miss you, see you again
On the other side

Bill Winslow was a man of exceptional ability. He took pride in serving his clients whatever the need. He was compassionate and never complained. I shall miss him as a mentor and friend. Miriam Smith

I had the privilege of sponsoring Bill years ago and cherish the memories we shared. I hope the fond memories his family has with him help ease their loss. Bill was a great example and will be missed by many people.

Bill W. 25 years ago when I moved to this town I met Bill. We would go out to dinner on Friday night. Have some laughs and then see him on Sunday mornings and have some more laughs. He had a great sense of humor. He inspired me to stay on course. Thank you, Bill

I went through grammar and High School with Bill... ARHS '80.

He was a good guy and a good friend. Sorry to hear about his passing.

I feel so lucky that I was able to call Billy a friend. We were in the same class at ARHS. I really got to know him a couple of summers in Amherst after we both had our college degrees. What a great guy. A truly nice and genuine man I´m proud to call a friend. We lost touch for the past 30 years but that had no bearing on the sadness I have knowing he is gone. Billy, if you can read this. Thank you for being my friend. Shooting hoops and eating #9 pockets most everyday that one summer are...

You will be missed, now you rest in the arms of the Lord!!!
