Sharp-Dressed Hero
Bill Wren fought fires for 25 years, raised two sons and when they began thinking about careers, said: "You want something that you love, that you're waking up in the morning and looking forward to."

That is how Mr. Wren felt about being a firefighter in Coney Island. His family shared good times - friendships with firefighting families, barbecues where the men cooked. But they never heard about the danger and exhaustion. After retiring, he became the the World Trade Center's fire safety director. When visiting firefighters saw him in a suit, "they'd rag on him for dressing so sharp," said his son Christopher.

Off duty, he went to art museums and watched Sister Wendy's art lectures on TV. He grew vegetables and cooked for himself and Pat, his wife. A trip to Ireland got him interested in his forebears. "He was understated," Christopher said. "But in control - the voice of reason and calm. In a family emergency, we'd look to him. Now we're asking: 'What are we going to do now?' "

Not sure what to say?

I think of you every year, I remember your sister's your family lived next door. Rest in peace

September 12, 2021
So many lost their lives on 9/11. My son once was a fireman, first responder. I could only be thankful that my son was not one of the many who died that day.
In order for me to make it personal and to think of and pray for the families and friends of some of those heroes, I chose 5 names and pictures of those heroes.
I don't know which website that I was on to choose the names and pictures, but I printed them and cut them out and mounted them on cardstock. ...

Rest in peace my friend

I personally knew Bill through one of his fellow fireman. We would see each other at cookouts and were on a bowling team together. That was not working out too well so we joined a bar dart league. Bill was one of the nicest guys I ever knew. He had a great sense of humor, was a wonderful father to his two boys and a fantastic husband. I was saddened to hear of the passing of Bill's wife Pat. Regards to the family.

I never met you Bill, but I knew your wife Patricia Doyle Wren. We were classmates at St. Mary's School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY. I learned of your passing years after the fact, and now sadly your lovely wife Pat has passed also. The two of you will meet again in heaven. God bless you both.

Thank you for lending me your strength and courage today.
