WILLIAM YEE

Billy is my younger brother, No. 6, in a family of 8 kids. I am his sister, No. 4. I wish I could recount some incident involving Billy that reveals with dazzling clarity the unique qualities relatives and friends have written about. But, hard as I tried, I could recall almost nothing. Perhaps, on the way to becoming a nonagenarian, I've simply forgotten. Or, maybe because we were separated by long distances a long time--Billy was in the Boston area; I settled in Hawaii--we didn't get...

MY BROTHER BILL will always appear in my memory as a kind, pleasant person to have around. He always tried to be present at all family celebrations whether it was celebrating a new year, another Christmas, a new born members to the family or greeting out –of- town family members or their friends . But what made his eyes sparkle the most was when he met up with his granddaughters. He adored them and was always understanding of that phase that we call “growing up”.

Uncle Bill was my mother's brother. Because I've lived in Hawaii for most of my life, I didn't have many opportunities to get to know Uncle Bill very well, but I wish I had, because clearly he was an exceptionally gentle and friendly and fun person. He made it out to Hawaii a couple of times, and I got to Boston a few times--so I have a few photos. Aloha, Uncle Bill, from your Hawaii family. We will miss you.
