I know of Mrs. Battle through my sister, Sandra Smith, and my mother, the late Thelma Taylor Fant, and I just marvel at her life. What a wonderful woman she was and I know that you will miss her, but what a blessing it was to have had her for such a long time.

I don't know where to begin. My Grandma was like a mother to me. She taught me how to do everything from blowin my nose to how to go out and get a job. She would always say "you get up early in the morning and go by yourself". She taught me that hard work and determination will always prevail in the end. Mrs. Battle was a wonderful and caring person. My mother, Thelma Taylor Fant, a friend of Mrs. Battle since childhood, was born in Elliston and reared in Connellsville, Pa. They kept in touch until my mother's death in 2003. Some family members still reside in the Elliston area (Simmons, Turner, Brewer, Coles, and Craggette). Since my mother's death, I have kept in touch with Mrs. Battle and will miss her terribly. We enjoyed talking and reminiscing about her visits to Connellsville...

I am truly going to miss her. She was like everyone's favorite Aunt. She lived only two doors up from me and sometimes I would go and play Kings in the Korner with her. As a child and even into adult I remember hearing her and Mrs. Goldie talking across the street to each other. Even after I moved away, I would often stand on my mom's porch and listen to the two of them talking to each other. I was a great welcome home.
