The Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, Inc., announces with the deepest sympathy the transition of Rev. Dr. Willie James Perry Sr.


Rev. Dr. Willie James Perry, Sr. was born to Isaac and Thelma Perry in Mobile, Alabama on July 31, 1946. He transitioned from his earthly labor to receive his heavenly reward on Thursday, March 3, 2022.  He is preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Aaron Martin and Derrick Benard, Sr.


Rev. Dr. Perry was a graduate of Williamson High School. He continued his education at Bishop State Community College, Alabama State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology and Social work with minor in Psychology.  He later returned to the Interdenominational Seminary where he received a Master of Divinity Degree and to the Andersonville Theological Seminary where received his Doctorate of Biblical Studies.


Rev. Dr. Perry served in the United States Army where received an honorable discharge, the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was employed by Booker T. Washington for 30 years where he served as regional manager until his retirement. 


Rev. Dr. Perry was a faithful member of the Greater Union Baptist where he served as Member of choir, Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Associate Minister before becoming the Pastor of St. Louis Street Missionary Baptist Church where he severed as a faithful and tirelessly servant of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ until his passing.


Rev. Dr. Perry was a committed and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and Pastor. His passion was to minister the Word of God and bring men, women, and children to the knowledge of Jesus Christ.  He truly loved his family and supported them in all of their endeavors and was a wonderful cook with a glorious voice from heaven. 


He leaves to forever cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife of 51 years Doris Martin Perry; two sons James Perry, Alabaster, Alabama and Willie Perry Jr., Montgomery Alabama;  three granddaughters, Abbie Perry, Mobile, Alabama,  J’Narra Perry, Alexandria, Louisiana and  Ragan Perry, Montgomery, Alabama; six grandsons, Nicholas  Perry, Alabaster Alabama, Frederick Perry, Mobile, Alabama, Koutland Perry, Alabaster, Alabama, Dru Perry, Alabaster, Alabama, Derrick Benard Jr., Mobile, Alabama and Israel Benard, Mobile, Alabama;  two great-grandsons, Ryan Lacy and  Roy Lacy both of  Mobile, Alabama;  one brother, Rev. Eugene (Bonita) Perry, Mobile Alabama; one daughter-in-law, Latina Benard, Mobile Alabama; one  Aunt, Doris  Alexander, Lucedale, Mississippi, two sister-in-laws, Patricia Taylor, Los Angeles, California  and Linda (David) Crumpton, Mobile Alabama; devoted cousin, Tyrone (Caroline) Ivory, Mobile  Alabama; devoted friends, Dea. Jake (Mary Sue) Laffitte, Rev. Sylvester (Lillian) Trotter, Dea. Marcus Moore, Rev. Charles Moore and Dea. Benjamin (Sylvia) Laffitte, Sam Lucky, Minister Alice Rodgers, Minister Alice Hall, and Cecelia (Andrew) Otis, Tony (Karen) Brown, all of Mobile, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, God-daughter, cousins, friends and devoted church families Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church and St. Louis Street Missionary Baptist Church.
