Winfry Ann Nystrom, 79, of Longview passed away May 25, 2010, at the Hospice Care Center.
She was born Feb. 4, 1931, in Yakima, to Edwin Farwell and Alice Lucille Darby. She graduated from high school in Yakima and attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash., for two years on a voice scholarship. She moved to the local area from Seattle 47 years ago.
Ann's first priority was as a homemaker, loving her husband and two children unconditionally. She taught her children, as a living example, how to follow Christ. Ann was a caregiver for the terminally ill in her home.
She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sweet Adelines and a stake missionary. She sang for funerals, weddings and in the church choir. She enjoyed reading and was an avid library patron. She also enjoyed collecting Native American History books, writing letters and poetry, genealogy, playing piano, family trips to Long Beach, visiting family and friends, and caring for her grandchildren. Ann was compassionate and always willing to help those in need.
Ann married Ted A. Nystrom in Yakima Aug. 22, 1959. He preceded her in death June 2, 2005.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David Anton and Terri Nystrom of Vancouver; a daughter and son-in-law, Julia Anna and Gary Dan Shumaker of Kelso; a sister, Carol Rae Marshall of Seattle; four grandchildren, Sara Marie Fortunato, Jeremy Garrett Shumaker, Joshua Aarron Shumaker and Kristen Darby Nystrom; a nephew, Jeff Marshall; a niece, Angela Marshall; a great-nephew, Austin Marshall; a great-niece, Lucy Marshall; and a great-grandson, Zachery Fortunato.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Rick Still officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Care Center.
