Not sure what to say?

I remember so well the day Winifred spoke at our Avoca grade school about the wonderful work performed by the Hadley School for the Blind. Last year as we were assisting a lady from the ferry to her bus stop in Seattle, we talked about Hadley. I was pleased to hear this woman refer to Winifred as a "legend". - - W. S. Yale, M.D.

Wishing you peace and condolences to your family. I'm sorry for losing contact with you over the years.

To Eileen and Christine and Michael, all of whom I have met, I express my sympathies. My name is Rick Miller and I studied two courses with Winifred through Hadley, one in Grade Three Braille and the other in Rapid Braille Reading. The material in the Grade Three Braille course I applied throughout high school and college. I first met Winifred when visiting California in 1975 and then after moving out here from Pittsburgh I had several occasions to visit with her personally. I have met...

Dear cousins, I am very sorry for the loss of your mother Winifred Kuhn. My mother, Marian Devane Crowley, was her first cousin. I saw cousin Winnie on several occasions during my life. I always looked forward to her annual Christmas letter. I have been missing it since my own parents passed away in 1997. I grew up with many stories of your mother including her learning to cook and separate egg yolks from egg whites, stories of Great-uncle Nick making checkerboards so that she could play,...

I just wanted to express my sympathy to all. I was at the service and your mom was beautifully honored. I hadn't any idea what an accomplished woman your mom was. My best wishes to all of the family.
Sincerely,
Tom Carberry

Winifred was my teacher for 3rd grade Braille.

Wow Cousins- what a wonderful job you did on this. May we all have a life so well lived! xo Marie

My heartfelt condolences to the entire Downing Family. Always a bright star in our Sunset District neighborhood, your mom, your dad, you all, are truly amazing folks with the brightest of spirits. Take comfort and stay strong, knowing that there is one more angel in heaven waiting for us. Truly, The White Family

What a beautiful tribute to your wonderful mother. I knew her from her work with the American council of the Blind. We also took a trip together with a group of other blind people some years ago which gave me a chance to get to know what a gift she was to the world. Yes, she was a tireless advocate who fought for what she believed in, but, unlike some, her advocacy came out of a strong love for others and a true desire to make the world a better place. she was a warm, caring, sincere and...
