Montville - Winslow E. Crampfield, 80, of 24 Ricky Lane, Oakdale, died at his residence on Monday evening, Oct. 7, 2013.
He was born April 26, 1933, in North Stonington, the son of Charles H. and Leah (Demers) Crampfield. Mr. Crampfield lived most of his life in Quaker Hill, attended the Quaker Hill School, and graduated in 1953 from New London High School, where he played baseball for four years as a pitcher and played the tuba in Mr. Richard Benvenuti's band for four years as well.
From 1953 to 1955, he served in the U.S. Army and was veteran of the Korean War.
On Feb. 25, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Diane Browne, at the Quaker Hill Baptist Church and lived in the family home, the stone house, where they raised their two daughters until moving to Oakdale 25 years ago.
Mr. Crampfield worked at Electric Boat from 1956, as an outside electrician, until he retired in 1995. He was a member the Quaker Hill Lions Club and had served as a former club president. He also been a member of the Oxoboxo Lodge of Masons.
In addition to his wife, Diane, he is survived by his two daughters, Laurie Schlink and her husband, Robert, of Quaker Hill and Christine Guntner and her husband, Vincent, of Mystic; three grandchildren, Kimberly Rouisse and her husband, Brian, Heather Schlink, and Robert Schlink and his wife, Jess; six great-grandchildren, Alex, Josh, Jaxson, Bella, Grace, and Olivia; and a cousin, Bill Currie and his wife, Ginny.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, Oct. 11, at the Quaker Hill Baptist Church. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to Town of Groton Animal Control, 68 Groton Long Point Road, Groton, CT 06340.
