Ygnacio M. Angel Jr., 92, lifelong resident of Las Cruces, entered eternal life Saturday, May 10, 2014, at La Posada – Mesilla Valley Hospice. He was born Aug. 3, 1921, to Ygnacio and Ascension Miranda Angel. Mr. Angel retired as a retail store manager. He served his country honorably In the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Survivors include three sons, Alfred Angel and wife, Gregoria, Oscar Angel and Ygnacio Angel III, all of Las Cruces; five daughters, Margaret Guerrero and husband, Fidel, of Belen, Sally Giusa and husband, John, of San Pedro, California, Irene Valenzuela and husband, Leo, of Las Cruces, Rosemary Angel of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and Elizabeth Angel-Garay and husband, Salvador, also of Las Cruces. Other survivors include 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Natalia Angel. Calling hours will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014, in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014, at Our Lady of Health Catholic Church, 1178 N. Mesquite. The rite of committal and interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest alongside his wife. Military honors will be accorded by a New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment. Serving as casket bearers will be Roland Guerrero, Ramon Aguilar Jr., Antonio Villalpando, Alfred Angel Jr., Christopher Angel and Alejandro Angel. Honorary bearers will be Angelica Angel, Desiree Valenzuela, Gina Angel, Becky Pearson, Jessica Craig and Brittney Sena.
