Not sure what to say?

Larry and I met each other in Naples at the end of 2018. This short-term acquaintance, some of his casual remarks and movements, brings me back to the happy times with old friends. I wish we could found each other sooner. I wish we could accompany each other longer.

I miss you

Even though we didnt spend all that much time together, I came to know Larry as a kind hearted, soft spoken and bitingly witty person. Furthermore he was a fierce Ping Pong opponent.

Condolence to his family.

He will be missed.

Larry was like a big brother to me when we met at Indiana University. He helped me practice my Chinese with a great amount of patience. It was only a couple months ago that I asked him to attend my wedding in US. It saddens me that he is no longer with us. I wish the best to his family and I am grateful to know a great person such as him in my life.

I am shocked and saddened to hear this news. I enjoyed many discussions with Larry while he was in Nanjing. He was kind and thoughtful - a model professor and a model person.

Larry organized a wonderful joint faculty monthly seminar with the Business School at Nanjing University and the Hopkins-Nanjing Center, Chinese American Studies Center of Johns Hopkins University. I kept in touch with him throughout his tenure in Austria. A wonderful colleague and a warm, compassionate human being. Hope we can put together something in his memory.

I am deeply saddened by the loss that you and your family have encountered. My condolences.

Yu (Larry) Chen in Memorium

This gradually led to plans to write a paper (along with one of his former classmates from China). Thereafter my discussions with Larry usually began by discussing the paper, although we often then digressed on to other topics. I always enjoyed our chats. Larry was very patient, kind, and an interested observer of human behaviour...
