Yvonne H. Gibson

Yvonne H. Gibson, 74, of Powell Valley in Big Stone Gap, VA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (Jan. 11, 2012) at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap. She was born in Lee County, VA and lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap. She was a retired Rural Carrier for the U. S. Post Office, with 30 years of service. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Big Stone Gap. She was affectionately known by her grandchildren as "Cracker." She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan L. Gibson; a son, Tracy Lee Gibson; her parents, Larkin and Matilda (Riggs) Hilton; three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Elkins of Big Stone Gap; her son, Dan Gibson Jr. and wife, Katie of Big Stone Gap; five grandchildren, Hannah Elkins, Candace Elkins, Nick Elkins, Taylor Gibson and Olivia Gibson; one sister, Janelle Luster of Kingsport, TN; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap. The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home chapel with Greg Townsend, Minister officiating. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Glencoe Cemetery. The family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. on Saturday to go in procession. The pallbearers will be: Nick Elkins, Jessee Hagan, Preston Chadwell, Calvin Meade, Lee Harris and Norman Clifton.
