Yvonne Grace Wegenhoft Leonard, 88, passed peacefully with her daughter Janice Fox, by her side, surrounded by love and prayers from her family, in Johnson City, Texas. She went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Yvonne was born on June 22, 1932, in Rock Island, Texas.
Yvonne, affectionately known as "Danny" was a pioneer for change when women's roles were evolving, and she did it with grace by supporting family values and honoring traditional roles. She was able to live in both worlds, having a successful teaching career and raising three daughters. She opened doors for future female Aggies by attending Texas A&M University during summer sessions before women were admitted to attend. She earned her Master's Degree from Southwest Texas State University in Math and Science. Her career included serving students, at Morris Ranch, Fredericksburg ISD, Johnson City ISD, Banquete ISD, and Northeast ISD.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, James Ross Leonard; parents, Adolph and Grace Childress Wegenhoft and her adoptive parents, William Lavo and Nora Wegenhoft; her siblings, two brothers and a sister.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Sharon Pope (David); Janice Fox (Larry Balko); Teresa Leonard; grandchildren, Chuck Schuetz (Katie); Vanessa Fox-Norton (Jason); Jimmy Fox (Andrea); Randa Pope; great-grandchildren, Hailey Fox, Haden Fox, Travis Norton, Jacob Norton, Siena Schuetz, Evelyn Schuetz, Ella Kate Schuetz, David Herold; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Bill Pickard; and nieces and nephews, Will Pickard (Gina); Lori Letcher (Trey); and deceased, Brenda Lambeth and Mike Pickard.
A private viewing will be held for close friends and family for their health and safety due to COVID-19. Graveside services were held Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Johnson City Masonic Cemetery.

Her German roots gave her a genuine belief in the importance of family and tradition.
She influenced generations of children and will be remembered for her steadfast love, conviction, and compassion.
