Chief was named a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, its highest honor. He was a recipient of Scouting's Silver Beaver, which is the ultimate honor a local council may award. Nothing was more important to Mr. Cross than the virtues the Scouting program teaches youth. Steadfast loyalty,...

I was so sad to learn of Chief's passing today. My prayers are with his family. I was fortunate to work for Chief Cross at Camp Sequoyah in '78 & '79, travel to Philmont in '78, and be a member of and work with Cherokee 50 for many years. I was extremely fortunate this past year when our scout troop, T-128 of Smiths Station, attended summer camp at Sequoyah. What a trip down memory lane. Too many memories to share here. But one time I remember walking and talking with Chief, telling him...

Chief Cross epitomized what was greatest in a Scout Leader. I think back to Camp Arrowhead and the incredible memory of hundreds of Scouts in uniform at attention around the Parade Ground as the Colors were being lowered at the end of each day. Chief Cross helped teach us that great love and respect for our God and our Country. Today, all of the Scouts that served under and with him, lower those flags and sound the cannon again in our minds and hearts in His honor.

My most vivd and favorite memory of Chief was how much enjoyment
he(and the rest of the staff) would get through the fellowship shared during the after meal songs and the late night staff meetings. In my minds eye I still see him walking Lucky and listening to my many "yarns" and giving advice that I needed to heed, but sadly, many times I didn't. I can honestly say that my life is much richer, having known Zack Cross. ADDA-BOY Chief....you will be truely missed.

Chief Cross was a father to many, a brother to most, and a friend to all. He was a truly dedicated man, bent on developing tomorrow's leaders. I was lucky enough to travel out West with Chief, Lon Moore, and Troy Post on two occasions, and they were experiences that helped me develop as a young man. I might miss the man, but the lessons Chief Cross taught me will never fade.

Chief was a man among men. For me this man lived the BSA Oath & Law. I viewed Chief as a father figure and a man who earned my respect.

I was sad to read of the passing of Chief Cross. He was one of the many influences in my life as a scouter. Someone I looked up to and thought of often. He will always be one that I remember for his adhering to the 12 points of the Scout Law. He will be sorely missed. Loved his dog, too.

Zack Cross was a friend. Not the kind of friend we make today, where we just know each other by site or see each other a few times a year. Zack Cross knew you, knew about you, and cared about you. We are very lucky to have a few good friends in our life times, if you had Zack Cross as a friend you were more than lucky, you were blessed.
