HOLTON - Zane H. White, 83, Holton, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Holton Community Hospital. Zane was born May 23, 1921, at Bonner Springs, the son of Fred White Sr. and Bessie Marshall White. He graduated from McLouth High School in 1940. He served in the Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He was wounded in the Battle of North Africa. He worked for the Santa Fe Railway for 31 years. He later owned and operated Budget Furniture in Holton. He was a member of the Evanglical Methodist Church in Holton and Disabled American Veterans. He married Mary Smith on Dec. 16, 1944, in Perry. She died Jan. 11, 1984. He married Josephine Brenner on Sept. 12, 1986, in Valley Falls. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Gary D. White, Topeka, and Kenny L. White, Mayetta; two stepsons, Kenneth Hines, St. Joseph, Mo., and Karl Hines, Fort Mojave, Ariz.; two daughters, Kay Moorhead, Topeka, and Peggy Myers, Meriden; two brothers, Fred White Jr. , Circlevi lle, and Dale White, West Hampton Beach, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-stepgrandchildren. He also was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Heath White and Shanel White; a stepdaughter, Koleta Sherman; and a stepgranddaughter, Linda Sherman. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka. He will lie in state from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where family visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Interment will be in Buster Cemetery, northeast of Perry. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holton Community Hospital and sent in care of the funeral home.
