Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

Tylus, Zofia – of Flint Township, age 90, died Monday, September 5, 2022 at McLaren Hospital-Flint.


Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, September 9, 2022 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, G-3139 Hogarth Avenue, Flint, Father Anthony Strouse officiating. Entombment in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.


Visitation 4:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. Visitation will be at 9:00 AM Friday at St. Pius X until the time of the Mass.


Zofia was born on July 18, 1932 in Krasnik, Poland, the daughter of the late Jan and Paulina (Bugaiska) Skowronski. She married Jan B. Tylus on April 28, 1956 in Poland. They came to Flint, MI in 1962. She initially worked as a house cleaner and eventually became a seamstress at The Vogue for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and making clothes for them, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, and walking at Genesee Valley Mall. She was also proud to share her Polish heritage by preparing homemade Polish recipes and attending polka dances.


Surviving are son Jack (Valerie) Tylus of Swartz Creek; granddaughters Elizabeth (Brandon) Rosser-York of Clio, Katherine (David) Willoughby of Troy and Paulina (Kyle) Standifer of Livonia; great-granddaughters MiKayla and Amelia Rosser-York and Hannah Standifer. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Helena Skowronscy.


The family would like to thank the staff at Woodhaven Senior Community and caregivers at Homestead Home Healthcare Services for their care.

The world has lost another wonderful human being. She was such a sweet woman. Never forgotten. Jack and family, may your memories of her help you through the days ahead.

I live at Woodhaven Senior Community and enjoyed talking to Zofia when I would ride my bike up to get my neighbor & my mail. She was just such a sweet lady. I was so surprised & saddened to hear of her passing!! I will miss her.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Jack, Valerie and family. I’m so honored to have had the chance to have Zofia as my friend. I’m so thankful of the great memories I have of her. RIP my dear friend, Zofia.
