Thomas E. Finnegan
Thomas E. Finnegan of Willimantic, a former longtime resident of New Canaan, passed away suddenly on December 10th. Tom was 58. Thomas - Tom - was born in Eastchester, NY in 1962 to the late Eugene H. Finnegan and Lucinda Daley Finnegan. After moving to New Canaan in 1973, Tom attended St. Aloysius, Saxe and New Canaan High School.
Tom's love of life and generous spirit were evident in his work, where he was a case manager at a wellness center, helping those less fortunate get a leg up on life and on the right path. During his leisure time Tom enjoyed fishing, softball, and motorcycle riding as well as spending time with friends and family.
He especially enjoyed this time of year, looking forward to spending time with his extended family. In addition to his mother of New Canaan, Tom is survived by brothers, Lawrence (Theresa) Finnegan of New Canaan, Christopher Finnegan of Bridgeport, Timothy Finnegan (Lily) of Dale City, Oregon, and sister Missy Higbie (Chris) of Stratford; nieces and nephews Jason, Jessica and Jeremy Finnegan, Tommy and Mary Grace Higbie, and Timmy Finnegan as well as several great nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, infectious laugh, curious intellect and kindness and generosity towards others.
Interment will be private; the family will hold a memorial for friends and family at a later date.
In the spirit of Tom's giving nature, the family asks for contributions to your local food bank.
