ANTOINETTE MAIO Obituary

Antoinette (Nettie) Baldo Maio, 97, of DeLand, died on April 20, 2013 after a long, wonderful life. Nettie was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 29, 1915. On October 25, 1936 Nettie married Anthony J. (Tony) Maio and they lived happily together for 54 years until his death in March 1990. Nettie and Tony traveled extensively and lived in New York and Arizona before moving to Florida in 1968. Nettie worked as a bookkeeper for Nassau County, NY until her retirement in 1965. Nettie volunteered for many charitable organizations throughout her life; she was the president of the ARC of Nassau County during the 1960s and continued as a hospital volunteer until she was 94 years old. Nettie was also preceded in death by her son Anthony A. Maio; her brothers John, Daniel, Joseph, Nicholas and James Baldo; and a foster grandchild William Rollins. Nettie is survived by her sons Joseph Maio and his wife Margaret of Round Hill, VA and Robert Maio of DeLand; grandchildren Michele Graves and husband Scott of Raleigh, NC and Julie Kemper and husband Daniel of Frankfort, KY; great-grandchildren Jessica and Claire Graves and Dalton and Drew Kemper; and by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A memorial mass celebrating her life will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, May 6th at St. Peter Catholic Church, 359 W New York Ave, DeLand, Florida. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in her name may be given to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 1925 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Orange City, FL, 32763 or to a charity of your choice.

It was a privelage to have been a part of your life during your remaining few months. Thank you Robert for all of your help in providing the needed care for you mom. I had the pleasure of seeing her while she was at the Hospice care center as well. I am glad that I could say my goodbye.

Our deepest sympathy to Joey and Robbie and the family for the loss of their beautiful mother and our aunt. You have been an inspiration of life to all of us and you are now joined with our father, Nicholas and all your other siblings and relatives in heaven You will always be remembered and we pray that you will look down on us and keep us all safe and healthy.
