B.H. (Bill) Armstrong

B.H. (Bill) Armstrong was born on December 13, 1926, in Horton KS. He passed away August 25, 2016, at James River Care Center, Springfield, MO. Preceded in death by parents, Pearl and Elsie (Brown) Armstrong; and brother Donald.

Bill was a founder, Honorary President and Lifetime Achievement Award winner of Watercolor USA Honor Society; Awarded the Missouri Arts Council Lifetime Achievement in the Arts; Springfield Arts Council "Ozzie"; C' Des Mousquetaires D' Armagnac; MSU Appreciation Award; Who's Who in American Art. Member of the following: MSU Founder's Club; Springfield Art Museum (The BH Armstrong Gallery); Springfield Symphony, Juanita K. Hammons Hall, King's Way UMC. Numerous prestigious International and National awards, exhibitions and accolades.

Education-University of Illinois- Master of Fine Arts; Bradley University-Bachelor of Fine Arts, Cum Laude; University of Illinois. Enlisted in the US Air Force and served in the Philippines. Emeritus Professor of Southwest Missouri State University, founder of the Graphic Arts Department; Professor of the University of Wisconsin, Ford Foundation Consultant in Burma; Grad Asst. of University of Illinois, Instructor at Bradley University.

Bill exemplified the American Dream, brilliant, legendary artist, his "magnificent obsession"; passionate about the arts and education, philanthropist, Jazz and Symphony aficionado, world traveler, voracious reader, gourmet cook and gardener. Cherished time with family and friends. Hoped that an Armstrong painting would bring "an aesthetic nudge". He will be remembered by his family, friends, students and patrons whom he loved. His art lives on forever.

Survived by beloved wife of 26 yrs. Margo Armstrong, Springfield, MO; Sons- William Cortney (Cort) Armstrong (Angela), granddaughter Jasmine, Santa Clarita, CA; William Bradford (Brad) Armstrong (Jody), Australia; Daughters-Sonja Stevenson Clifton, granddaughters Lauren and Ashley Clifton, Overland Park, KS; Janel Bagby Springfield, MO; Giselle Lewis Springfield, MO; The Michael J. Stevenson family CA,TX,WA; Cousins-Dixie Brown, KC, MO; Stewart Brown, TX; Steve Brown, IL. Sister-in-Law Karin Caddell, Strafford, MO; Nieces-Stacey Cale, NJ; Rois Langner, CO.

Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 11:00 am in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests Springfield Symphony, MSU Foundation-Randy Hamm Jazz Program or the charity of your choice.

Mr. Bill Armstrong will forever be remembered for the brilliant man and artist that he was. I feel honored to have gotten to know him in recent years and always loved talking art with him. The heavens are quite a bit more colorful now! Sincere sympathy to Margo, Janel, and the family.
