Dwight Newton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A Natural State Funeral Service & Crematory on Feb. 7, 2026.
Dwight Rex Newton Jr., 74, was born on July 25, 1951, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and passed away on February 5, 2026.

Dwight lived a life defined by kindness, connection, and a genuine love tor people. He found joy in life's simple pleasures-fishing, good music, spirited conversations about politics, and faithfully cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. Music held a special place in his heart; he played pass guitar in a band called The Woodland Creatures, using music as another way to connect with those around him.

He attended Missouri State University, where he earned a degree in political science, reflecting his deep interest in people and the world around him. Dwight spent much of his career working in manufacturing and grocery store management, a path that suited him well because of his love for working with people. That passion eventually led him to open his own grocery store in Springfield, Missouri, something he took great pride in.

Above all, Dwight was kind. He was a friend to everyone-someone who listened without judgment, welcomed easily, and made people feel comfortable just by being himself. Even in the face of medical challenges, Dwight faced life with courage, dignity, and resilience, never letting hardships dim his generosity or love for those around nim.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Paula Newton; his children, Justin Ludwig and Amber Ludwig; his four beloved grandsons; his sister, Suzie Stoner (Bill); his nieces, Elizabeth Stoner-Thompson and Amy Reynolds; and his cousins, David Newton and his wife Becky, their daughter Sarah Newton, Philip Newton and his wife Norma, their daughter Christine, and Bill Cantrel.

Dwight will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the relationships he built, the music he played, the kindness he shared so freely, and the quiet strength he showed throughout his life.
