Lamar Mervine Obituary

CENTRALIA — Lamar Mervine, 93, of 411 Troutwine St., passed away Jan. 1, 2010, in Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

Born in Centralia Feb. 11, 1916, he was a son of the late Lamar and Jesse (Bowers) Mervine.

He was a graduate of Conyngham Township High School.

He was married to Lanna Smith, who preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 2008.

He worked as an operating engineer on construction with Local 542, Harrisburg. In his younger years, he worked in Centralia collieries.

He was a former mayor of Centralia.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mount Carmel.

He is survived by a son, Harold, of Ranshaw; a sister, Harriet Flannery, of Norristown, a brother, Edward and his wife, Sally, of Selinsgrove, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Owens, and a brother, William.

MERVINE — Lamar Mervine, 93, of 411 Troutwine St., Centralia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Willard A. Rothermel Funeral Home, Ray W. Rothermel, director, 120 S. Market St., Mount Carmel, with the Rev. Daniel Siddle officiating. Interment will be in the Christ Church Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

I saw him in the documentary about centralia. My respect goes to him and everyone who lived there (the home is home leeches what others say) I'm not a believer but may his soul rest in peace E. Fischer from Germany
