Adam Leshinskie Obituary

COAL TOWNSHIP — Adam E. Leshinskie, 88, of 1346 W. State St., died at 7:53 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Shamokin Area Community Hospital. Mr. Leshinskie was stricken suddenly ill Friday morning at home.

Born in Shamokin on Oct. 14, 1918, he was a son of the late Walter and Mary (Buckwash) Leshinskie.

He attended St. Stephens and Coal Township High School.

On June 7, 1941, in the Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church, Shamokin, he married the former Mary Klebasko, who survives.

He lived most of his life in Shamokin, having lived for a brief time in Baltimore, Md.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with Battery C 943rd Field Artillery Battalion, served in Rhineland and Central Europe and received the Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theater Service medal with two bronze stars and the Victory Medal.

Early in his life he worked as an independent coal hauler and for the Glen Burn Colliery as a miner. Most of his career was spent working as a welder for the Olmstead Air Force Base in Middletown and the New Cumberland Army Depot. After retiring from the federal government he worked for Zenith Electronics in Watsontown.

He was a member of the former St. Stephens Church, now Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church; a life member of the Polish Cadets and a member of Fairview Gun Club, all of Coal Township. Mr. Leshinskie was an avid hunter, reader and gardener. He was a lover of his Polish heritage and was fluent in speaking and reading the Polish language.

Surviving, in addition to Mary, his wife of 65 years, are three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward B. and Catherine Leshinskie of Pottstown, Joseph P. and June Leshinskie of Lancaster and Anthony R. and Andrea Leshinskie of East Hartland, Conn.; a daughter, Mary Frances Leshinskie of Elysburg; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; a brother, Bernard Leshinskie of Coal Township; three sisters, Helen Wengiel of Trappe, Victoria Leshinskie of Baltimore, Md. and Eleanor Dunstan of Coal Township; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, John M. Leshinskie, on Nov. 21, 1998; and two brothers, Joseph and Walter J. Leshinskie.

LESHINSKIE — Adam E. Leshinskie, 88, of 1346 W. State St., Coal Township. Funeral services will be celebrated at noon Wednesday at Our Lady of Hope Church, Shamokin. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a Christian Vigil service at 6 p.m., and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin. Leonard J. Lucas is supervisor.

Mary and family: May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Our prayers are with you all. Your's and Adam's hospitality on our last visit there with our daughter and great-grandaughter were greatly enjoyed! That was before the Lord took my Sarah from this life three years ago.
