Doris Davis Obituary

Doris Lillian Davis, 92, went home to her savior, Jesus Christ, on June 15, 2016.
She was born Sept. 19, 1923, to Rupert Thomas Garrison and Goldie Helen Grahm in Grants Pass, Oregon. She was delivered by the same doctor who delivered her mother in her great aunt's house. As a teen, the family moved to Missoula, Montana, where her dad had a gold mine. She helped as a camp cook and it started her love of cooking for others.
She graduated from Sheraden High School in Montana. After graduation, she attended a pharmaceutical school hoping to become a pharmacist. In a year's time, she decided that wasn't what she wanted to do.
On her way home one day, she passed a sign that said "Uncle Sam needs YOU," and Doris said, "Yes, yes he does," and went and joined the Marines. She was 20 years old and was stationed in Seattle from 1943-46. Once again, she found herself cooking for others as a cook for the officers mess.
She requested to be discharged in California and for a short time, she and her mother worked in a shipyard as "Rosie the riveters." Using the GI Bill, she went to the Brooks Institute of Photography and graduated as a professional portrait photographer.
She met and married Frank Davis in 1956. They adopted two children, and in 1972, Frank's job as a truck engineer brought them to Fairbanks. They raised their children here and were members of Bible Baptist Church. Doris worked for a few years at The House of Wood as a framer. She loved to entertain, hold Bible studies, attend to her flower garden, read mystery books, watch late night movies and was a superb cook and baker. She could often be found helping her son, Clay, at his antique store, Elegant Memories.
Doris was a sweet, soft spoken, genteel lady who loved all things Victorian and the color purple. She will be missed and was a blessing to know. A private burial was held at the Northern Lights cemetery, military section. Doris' earthly body was laid to rest between her husband and son.
She is preceded in death by her parents; twin sister Dorothy Luzck; brother Ruphert Garrison Jr.; husband Frank Davis of 43 years and son Clay Davis, of Fairbanks. Doris is survived by her daughter, Karyn Davis, of West Fargo, North Dakota; her granddaughters Victoria Moulton, of Carburry Manitoba, Canada, Robyn Moulton, of West Fargo, North Dakota; and four great grandchiIdren, of Carburry Manitoba, Canada.
A special thank you to her physician, Dr. Milton Wright, who always made her feel like a queen and to the staff of the Hospice of Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for all their support and a special thank you to Rachel, her nurse.
If you would like to remember Doris, please do so with a donation in her name to the Hospice of FMH.
Doris never forgot that she was a child of God and was grateful everyday for his tender care of her. Her favorite verse was John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
