Shauna Schullo Obituary
Dr. Shauna J. (Thompson) Schullo passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at her home in Cross Plains, Wis., after an extended fight with cancer.
Shauna was born on Nov. 4, 1965, to Wendell and Karen (Robinson) Thompson in Grand Junction, Colo. She graduated from Grand Junction Central High School in 1984.
After attending Mesa State College for two years, she married her friend and love, Scott A. Schullo, on May 14, 1988. They moved to Florida where Shauna attended the University of South Florida earning a bachelor's degree in chemistry, a master's degree in chemical engineering and a doctorate in distance education.
She was employed at USF until she and Scott moved to Fairbanks, where she worked for the Center For Distance Education at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In October 2007 they moved to Madison, Wis., where she was program director for Distance Education Professional Development for the University of Wisconsin.
Survivors include her husband of 20 years, Scott A. Schullo; her parents, Wendell and Karen Thompson; brothers, Thane Thompson of Colorado and Andrew Thompson of Oklahoma; grandmother, Barbara Thompson of Colorado; sisters-in-law, Debora Villella of North Dakota and Joni Keene of Minnesota; brother-in-law, Chris Brunner of Minnesota; mother-in-law, Rita Pettee of Minnesota; and many other family members and friends.
A celebration of Schullo's life will be hosted at Gunderson Funeral Home, 2421 Church St., Cross Plains, at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 14. Visitation will be
hosted from 5:30-7 p.m., on Thursday at the funeral home.
Arrangements were by Gunderson Cross Plains Funeral & Cremation Centers.

To Shauna's family,
I only knew Shauna the last few months of her life. We were in the Mindful Meditation class. But even in the short time we knew her we were so impressed by her warmth, her wit, her intelligence and most of all by her courage. We will be saying a special meditation for her in our home meditation group. She was loved and she will be missed.

Dear Family of Shauna:
My heartfelt love and compassion reaches out to each of you during this sad, sad, time. Some might say "well, now her fight is over and she is out of pain", this is true, but it is OK to be self indulgent at this time and allow yourselves to suffer the tremendous loss of her presence in your lives. She was obviously an incredibly bright, giving and loving woman. I am privileged to know her mom and dad, Karen and Wendall, and it comes as no surprise that she was such an extraordinary person. God bless you all in all the days and years to come.

Dear Family of Shauna,
My heartfelt love goes out to each of you during this time and all of the days and years ahead. What a lovely, accomplished, caring, devoted woman she was; and how very proud you all must be of all that she stood for and meant to each of you. It can be said "her fight is over and she is out of pain", this is true, but it is a validated emotion for each of you to have difficulty with the loss of her presence. Shauna and I went to Jr. High together. She was a fun quick witted friend that I always knew I could rely on. Although I have not seen her for many years I always treasured her friendship. I will miss her greatly. My thoughts are with you all at this difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember babysitting Shauna & her brothers as young children when I moved to G.J. from CA. She was a lovely child and it sounds like she grew to be a beautiful person as well. My heart goes out to all of your family. Scott, i am so sorry for your loss. She was such a wonderful, beautiful woman with a great sense of humor. I will always remember the first time i met you guys & all the laughs we had during your time up here. She will be greatly missed.
