Jackie Bisbee Obituary

Jackie "Pugs" Bisbee passed away Dec. 30, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona, where she resided for the past year. Jackie was born on Oct. 1, 1945, on Vashon Island, Washington, to Roy and Florence Miettunen. Jackie moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where she met and married her husband, Chuck, and together raised their three kids. Jackie attended Lathrop high school and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a degree in Psychology.
Jackie started her career as a case manager at Fairbanks Resource Agency and advanced to the Developmental Disabilities Coordinator and Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Coordinator for Tanana Chief's Conference. Jackie loved traveling to various villages where she worked with many Tribal Members, keeping in contact with many into her retirement. Jackie was a member of the Governor's committee on Employment & Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities. During her tenure on the committee, she was honored with the Hewitt Memorial Award. Jackie was the Secretary for Consortia of Native American Rehabilitation for several years and attended the conference annually from 1995 until 2007.
When Jackie retired in 2008, she and Chuck moved to Payson, Arizona, close to her sister, Carol. Chuck and Jackie traveled around Arizona and Nevada enjoying their adventures. They loved having people come to stay with them so that they could take their visitors to National Parks and other attractions in the area, including the casinos they often frequented.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Chuck Bisbee; her parents, Roy and Florence Miettunen; brother, Roy Miettunen Jr.; brother-in-law, Robert Shefchik; and great-nephews, Chris Hagen and Kyle Reece. Jackie is survived by her children, Andrew "Friz" Bisbee (Angie), Cindy Benford (Dennis), and Rick Irish; grandchildren, Donald Irish, Mandy Allen (Britt), David Gillitzer (Kayley), Andrea "Gus" Gillitzer, and Odin Bisbee; sister, Carol Shefchik; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws in California, Alaska, and North Dakota.
No service will be held as per Jackie's wishes but please have a glass of wine in her memory.

I first met Jackie as the crazy babysitter that thought taking a car load of toddlers to alaskaland to play was great fun and then she added dairy queen for treats afterwards....later she became the newspaper lady of chena hot springs road...making lots of new friends along the route...chuck had a continuous job keeping the cars running! then it was off to college and even greater success...never losing her adventureous spirit along the way! in her later years she loved Payson almost as much as Fairbanks. she was a wonderful friend that was always there....my thoughts are with friz, Cindy, rick and their families and also with carol and all the nieces, and nephews . she is missed

My dear sister in law, I had talked to you a few weeks ago and so glad I did. We told each other we loved each other and i cherish that. You were always so kind to me. May you rest and breathe easy now. Until we meet again I'll miss you. Jane

Seeing her picture makes me really sad. We loved her so much. She shared a birthday with my husband Larry Pierson. Many trips were made from Seattle to York ND after the Bisbee gang flew in from Alaska. Im missing this lady already.
