Edward Burt Obituary

Edward William Burt
Raleigh
Edward William Burt, 84, born May 31,1929, in Pittsburgh, PA, passed away September 25, 2013, in Raleigh, NC.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Raleigh, NC. Ed lived in Homer City, PA where he graduated from high school in 1947. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1948 for 4 years. He married Violet Antolino in 1953 and moved to State College, PA, where he earned a BS in Meteorology at Penn State, which gave him the opportunity to work for the US Weather Bureau. He provided meteorological support for the Air Pollution Division of the Public Health Service beginning 1956 that led to a transfer to Raleigh in 1969 and retirement in 1981. After 5 years in Raleigh he jokingly referred to himself as a native of Raleigh because he became so fond of the area. Two of Ed's siblings, Doris and David, predeceased him, and two siblings, Donald and wife Dot, of OR, and John of NV survive him.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vi, four great children: Edward, Jr., of NH, Ronald and wife Ann, Nancy Britt and husband Chris, Linda Driscoll and husband Paul, all three of Raleigh, along with nine grandchildren Jennifer, Andy, Nick, Sean, Kelly, Julie, Burt, Jonalyn and Monica and eight great grandchildren Charity, Cheyenne, Mikayla, Leilah, Charlie, Chelsea, Abigail and Ada.
Ed is very grateful for the care provided him by Vi during their 60 years together and especially the last two or three years when he slowed down.
The family would like to thank the staff at Always Best Care for their superb in-home care for the past 14 months and also to Crabtree Valley Rehab for the devoted and attentive care during his last week. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to get to know Ed and Vi and their family. It was an honor to help him over the last year. He was a special man and I will miss his jokes and smiles and our talks. He was a good man. Praying for comfort and peace for his family.
